The UV Index is a standard measurement of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
Use this guide to stay safe and enjoy the beautiful Lesvos sun responsibly.
While varied skin tones offer different levels of natural UV protection, it doesn’t grant complete immunity from sun damage.
UV Index | Risk Level | Recommended Protection |
---|---|---|
0-2 | Low | Minimal protection needed. Sunglasses recommended. |
3-5 | Moderate | Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+. Reapply every 2 hours, and immediately after swimming or heavy sweating. Wear a hat and sunglasses. |
6-7 | High | Use broad-spectrum SPF 30-50. Seek shade during midday. Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours without fail. Don't forget your hat and sunglasses. |
8-10 | Very High | Use SPF 50+.Try to minimize sun exposure. Reapplication is critical, ideally every hour, wearing a hat, and sunglasses are essential. Reapplication after every swim. |
11+ | Extreme | Stay indoors :( If outside, use SPF 50+ and cover up completely with UV-protective clothing. Sunscreen alone is not enough. |
